Governors Award

BHS Junior Named 2019 Governor's Scholar
Posted on 05/20/2019

Audrey Feldman, a student at Berlin High School, has been selected as a 2019 Connecticut Governor’s Scholar. Sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS), the Governor’s Scholars Program recognizes academically talented high school students in schools throughout the state. Principals are given the opportunity to nominate one junior who ranks in the top five percent of his or her class. Only 22 of the top students in Connecticut were selected to receive this honor; students receive recognition as well as information on participation in courses at various Connecticut colleges and universities. The selection process involves a committee of professional educators from throughout the state. Audrey, along with the other selected students, were honored at the Governor’s Scholars luncheon on Thursday, May 16th

Audrey stated, “Sitting on the sidelines has never suited me. Whether it is DECA, Model UN, the varsity tennis team, leadership in my church, or volunteering in the community, I am passionate and never do anything halfway. That is why this recognition means so much to me; it is the culmination of years of dedication both inside and outside of the classroom. But I could never have gotten this far without my friends, family, and teachers who helped foster my love of learning. I could never thank them enough.” In addition to the activities already mentioned, Audrey is a volunteer tutor, a summertime aide at the library, and a volunteer girls camp counselor. She loves playing piano, reading, and exploring the outdoors. In the future, she hopes to study business or economics; her desire to learn has translated into a passion for teaching, and she aspires to teach and research at the collegiate level.
