Berlin Broadcasting Earns Three Bonnie B. Carney Awards of Excellence in Educational Communications

The Berlin Broadcasting department, including the student-run Berlin Broadcasting Club, earned three Bonnie B. Carney Awards of Excellence in Educational Communications in the categories of Social Media, Course Selection Guide, and Special Project. The awards are presented by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Inc.

The Broadcast Club consists of over 40 students in grades 9-12.  They produce video recordings and live streams of Berlin High School community events. The club is directed by Nicholas Smith, the Berlin School District’s Media Specialist.

The Berlin Broadcasting Club was recognized with the Social Media award for their Berlin basketball live streams, which are a high level production that includes multiple camera angles, student sportscasters, and the use of real-time digital graphics. With many families unable to attend sporting events in-person during last year’s pandemic restrictions, the Berlin Broadcasting sports streams provided an amazing opportunity for BHS students and families to view school  sporting events in real time on the BHS TV YouTube Channel. They continue to grow the variety of events they produce for the school community, and have grown their YouTube base to over 1,000 subscribers.
