The CAS Arts Awards annually honor two outstanding seniors from each member school who
excel in the performing or visual arts. While excelling in the performing or visual arts is of
primary importance, scholarship and leadership are also supporting criteria. Students were
honored at a banquet at the Aqua Turf on Tuesday, April 1. Berlin High School is proud to
announce this year’s recipients: Aurora Logan, representing excellence in visual arts; and
Nathan DeJackome, representing excellence in performing arts.
Aurora Logan is a passionate and creative artist, eager to contribute innovative ideas to any
team she is part of. She is very strongly ingrained in the artistic community at Berlin High, as founder of the Comic Book Creators Club where she helped establish a creative outlet for
students interested in comic book art, graphic novels, and creative writing and storytelling; and
as a member of the Student Art League, Redcoat Marching Band, and Theatre Club. She was
recently seen on stage during the high school’s production of Wizard of Oz, and her comic strips
and creative writing pieces are often found in the Redcoat Rambler, Berlin High’s student
newspaper. Aurora is also involved in the community, notably as a volunteer singer with Bethany
Covenant Church’s youth group. Aurora’s plans after high school include attending CT State
Community College before transferring to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to
study animation and creative writing.
Nathan DeJackome is a standout student musician who consistently strives for excellence. He
has earned positions by audition in the CMEA Northern Regional and ASBDA Honor Bands as
well as Berlin High Music Department Medals. His passion for performing arts is evidenced by
his contributions to the high school’s Redcoat Marching Band, BHS Brass Quintet, and BHS
Jazz Band. Nathan is a lighting engineer with the BHS theater stage crew who has been
nominated for a Sondheim Theater Award and won a Halo Theater Award; his most recent stage
crew efforts took place during the Wizard of Oz school musical. Nathan is very involved in the
BHS community outside of the arts as well, spending countless hours as an Upbeat program
coordinator. Outside of Berlin High, Nathan can be found volunteering as a summer camp
counselor with the Joseph and Anthony Manzi Foundation summer music camp each year, and
he serves as recording secretary on the Berlin Youth Services Advisory Board. After graduation
Nathan plans to major in engineering.
